Prime Minister presided over the start-of-works ceremony

On last Friday the 28th, the Prime Minister José Sócrates, together with Mário Lino – Public Work, Transport and Communications Minister, Paulo Campos – Secretary of State and José Apolinário – Mayor of Faro, were present on the Algarve Litoral Concession start of works, at the place where the Faro North Ring Road construction will begin.
The official ceremony was marked by the a plate disclosure, followed by the speeches from José Apolinário, Rui de Sousa – Managing Director of the Concession, Mário Lino and the closing speech from José Sócrates.
The concession was launched in May 2008 and the contract signed in April 2009. The winning consortium “Rotas do Algarve Litoral” includes Edifer, Iridium, Dragados, Tecnovia and Conduril, which won the international Invitation to Tender.
The upgrading of the 125 National Road (EN125) represents an investment in safety, in quality of life and in the economy of the Algarve region, stated the Prime Minister. The intervention on EN125, connecting the entire region of Algarve, covers 273 kilometres and 14 of the total 16 districts of Algarve, directly benefiting around 400,000 inhabitants |
