Corporate Social Responsability

Safety and work conditions are extremely important to Edifer, in the way that the building sector activity presents considerable risks and traditionally high accident frequency.

Safety and Health at Work

Aware of these constraints, but willing to provide a safe work environment, Edifer has started a long process of detection and minimization of risk at all worksites, for its own as well for its partners’ and subcontractors’ employees.

We pursue our activity with respect to the health and safety laws applicable to all our employees, partners and local communities which we interact with.

Because we believe that accidents are always avoidable, we strongly invest in training and prevention, as to achieve a “zero accident” level, which was already attained in several works and is now a challenge clearly easier to win

These actions cover all entities involved in our projects, particularly the more vulnerable groups such as immigrant workers and less developed entities.

These efforts included not only the Safety and Health Plan formalization but also, among others, several training sessions and simulation of assistance to risk situations, resulting in a more aware workforce prepared to act in total safety.

In 2007, 1100 training sessions were given, which demonstrates the strong investment of Edifer in this domain.

Consequently, the safety indicators are continuously improving each year.

The Safety and Health at Work Certification, under the OHAS 18001:1999 standard, was awarded also in 2007.

Training and Development

Edifer offers a wide range of opportunities for personal development.

Working in Edifer gives many options to combine technical performance with business management and to take direct responsibility for projects and objectives.

The success of our projects and works directly depends on the individual and collective performance of each of us, and so our staff training and development initiatives deserve special attention and a careful and detailed preparation.

The 2007 Training Program, developed in the framework of the Edifer Management Academy Project was an important structured initiative of launching courses adequate to the future performance needs of our professionals.

In 2007, the initiative consisted of a set of actions to sustainedly follow the development of our staff’s individual skills, so much required by the sector new challenges, setting up conditions for excellence in their performance.

In this scope, behavioural, technical and general management training sessions were contemplated, reflecting a very significant global direct investment, with the equivalent to 1900 employees and 14,400 training hours.

Ethics

Transparency, integrity and ethics in business make part of our reputation in the actual relationship with all our stakeholders.

To the growing demand of training or specific works in the sector, Edifer has responded by giving its resources and knowledge to young apprenticeship students completing their studies, or by participating in master projects and specific works on the company and the sector.

As far as corporate associations are concerned, Edifer has been actively involved in initiatives which create value on domains such as sustainability promotion, industrial symbiosis, engineering and technical solutions, as well as social responsibility.
